Labas, broliai ir seserys šæš±š¹ Ya'at'eeh
Å iandien ā Rasos. The solstice. The night our people have never slept through.
Tonight, somewhere, a Lithuanian is lighting a fire on a hill. Weaving a vainikas of oak and fern. Singing the dainos our great-grandparents sang ā the same songs they kept alive in their kitchens through fifty years when singing them could cost you everything.
And they did keep them. That's why we're still here. That's why today the happiest young people on earth are Lithuanian ā our children, the first to grow up free, carrying roots the forgetting could never take.
I wrote a book about this. About the songs we carried across oceans. About a man who brings his grandfather's book of dainos back to a small Lithuanian village and finds the old ways were never lost ā only waiting.
It's a novel ā DinĆ© and Lithuanian, my two bloodlines ā and I released it today, on Rasos, on purpose.
If your roots still pull at you, this one is for you. Book 2, What Masan taught me will be release in the Fall.
Su pagarba,
Tony Skrelūnas
